5 Types Of Moving Services

There is a moving service for every need and budget. Knowing the different types of services and what they provide can help you choose the right level of service.

1. Full-Service

The highest level of moving is a full-service moving company. A general full-service moving package includes packing up your belongings, loading the truck, transporting the items, and unloading them at your new home. There are more complete full-service packages offered by some moving companies, which are sometimes referred to as white glove services. These can include unpacking, furniture assembly, and even tasks like setting up home entertainment services.

2. Self-Service

Self-service moving doesn't mean you have to do it all. Instead, self-service typically only applies to the packing and unpacking portions of the move, which are your responsibility. The movers will load the boxes on a truck, drive the truck to your new home, and unload the boxes from the truck. They typically won't provide any additional services like furniture assembly unless you purchase these all together.

3. U-Pack

U-pack services provide no manpower for packing, loading, and unloading. A truck or a trailer will be dropped off at your home, where you will pack and load the truck yourself. A driver will then take the truck or trailer to your new home and leave it there for you to unload. U-pack services are also sometimes called budget movers. There are typically options for local and long-distance moving.

4. Truck Rental

If you prefer to handle most of the move yourself or if you must move on a small budget, then truck rental is the way to go. You rent the truck and drive the truck, along with handling all the packing, loading, and unloading. If you need some help but don't want to hire a moving service, you can hire helpers to help with the loading and unloading. Sometimes truck rental services provide references to local moving helper providers.

5. Pod Style

Pod style moving is similar to truck movers, except instead of renting and driving a truck a storage pod is dropped off at your house. You load the pod and then the service picks it up and takes it to your new home. Pod style moving is most commonly used for long-distance moves, as it can take several days for a pod to be delivered.
